Unicorn Book Stories is a creative app that lets children make their own picture books. We built it to be private by default, and this policy explains — in plain language — exactly what the app does with information.
What stays on your device
The books your child makes are saved locally on the iPad or iPhone. The following never leave the device and are never sent to us:
- Drawings, text, stickers, and page layouts
- Photos you add from your photo library
- Voice narration and audiobook recordings
- Book titles, author names, and anything typed into a book
Deleting the app removes this content from the device.
Anonymous data we do collect
To understand how the app is used and to find and fix bugs, the app sends a small amount of anonymous, non‑personal information to our own server. This includes:
- A random device identifier generated by the app (not your Apple ID, phone number, or any personal account) and a per‑session ID
- Usage events — e.g. that a book was created or opened, that a tool was used — identified only by random IDs, never the contents of a book
- Crash and error diagnostics — what went wrong and where, so we can fix it
- Basic technical details: app version, device model (e.g. "iPad13,4"), and operating‑system version
- Your device's IP address is received by our server when data is sent (a normal part of any internet request); we use it only for coarse diagnostics and abuse prevention, not to identify your child
This data is stored in our own database and is not sold, rented, or shared with advertisers or data brokers. We do not use it to build profiles or to advertise to anyone.
Device permissions the app may ask for
- Microphone — to dictate text and to record narration. Recordings are stored in the book on your device.
- Speech Recognition — voice dictation uses Apple's built‑in speech recognition to turn speech into text. Apple may process this audio according to Apple's Privacy Policy. We do not receive or store that audio.
- Photo Library — when you choose to add a photo, iOS shows the system photo picker. Only the photos you pick are placed into your book, and they stay on the device.
Children's privacy
This app is designed for children and families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. There are no accounts, no sign‑in, no in‑app purchases, no ads, and no social features. The anonymous usage data described above contains no names or personal identifiers and is not used for advertising or tracking across apps or websites.
Data retention & your choices
- Because the analytics data is anonymous, it isn't tied to a person and can't be used to identify your child.
- You can stop all data collection by deleting the app.
- If you have any questions or want anonymous data associated with a device removed, email us and we'll help.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date above.
